Morikami Park Elementary is a proud partner of the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. Visitors enjoy a large variety of recreational activities including canoeing, fishing, hiking, wildlife observation and more.
A new state-of-the-art Everglades Exhibition includes a “Virtual Airboat Tour” ride that simulates the feeling of being on an airboat in the Everglades as well as a round, dark room that features “Nature’s Symphony After Dark” which captures the sights and sounds of the Everglades after dark.
The Refuge is home to many species of mammals, reptiles and other native animals including 257 species of birds. Founded in 1951, the Refuge is the northern most remnant of the Everglades, the only Everglades ecosystem in the world. It encompasses 221 square miles of sawgrass marsh, wet prairies, open sloughs and tree islands.
We encourage Morikami families to visit the Refuge and enjoy a unique Everglades experience!
